**Krag Model 1899 Carbine


.30-40. 22" barrel length. SN: 281708. Blued metal finish with polished bolt body and handle, nitre blue extractor and buttplate trapdoor mounting walnut straight wrist handguard with half length forend. Bolt action internal magazine fed repeating rifle charged via a loading hatch to the right receiver. Sights consist of an adjustable rear ladder adjustable from 100 to 2300 yards paired with a pinned front blade. Manufacturer mark to left receiver reads U.S./SPRINGFIELD ARMORY. with model mark reading MODEL 1899. Rear sight base displays a correct C for carbine mark, and the left wrist correctly lacks a saddle bar and ring. Barrel band displays a U mark to the right side. Wrist struck with circle P proof mark. Left wrist shows a boxed JSA/1900 inspector's cartouche of inspector Joseph S. Adams, the correct marking for a Krag of this vintage. Serial number likewise corresponds to 1900. Rear sight is the 1901 pattern, and shows a C stamp to the left side of the notch. Item also features the standard Krag cocking piece rather than the knurled headless type. Stock contains three piece cleaning rod and nickel plated oiler. {C&R}

Condition
Good to Very Good. Bore is Bright with crisp rifling throughout. Metal finish shows some thinning to the blue overall, edgewear, and streaks of brown patina to the barrel. Niter blue flaking on the extractor. Loading door exhibits some pitting along the edges. Bolt and bolt handle retain a bright polish, indicating they may have been cleaned at some point. Stock lightly sanded with some weakening of the marks and cartouches. Some scattered light dents to wood.
